My sister was in the process of renovating her house this past year and I jumped at the chance to be in charge of her kids’ bedrooms! First up was my 9 year old niece’s room. She has loved the Disney Villains since she was just a toddler so I wanted to incorporate the feel of the Villains without making it too childish and also giving her something that would grow with her so that we won’t have to change much as she gets older. My design inspiration started with this gorgeous moody floral wallpaper from http://hovia.com. I paired it with a light purple batten wall to be the main focus of the room.
I used my scroll saw to make this cute name sign for above her bed. I also built this cute floating nightstands and used dollar store dowels to add a fluted detail to the front. Since I was going for a moody boho vibe in the space I added some macrame wall hangings as decoration. This was my first try at macrame and it was a little confusing at first but once you figure out which way to hold the strings, it is super easy! I also found this vintage bedframe and painted it black.
I added this rattan chair from IKEA and bought a light mauve cushion from Amazon. I wanted to replace her light fixture but didn’t want to spend $200 so I found an old light fixture and DIYed the bead strands to add to the boho feel of the room.
Can you believe this dresser actually started as two separate nightstands? I joined them together, built a base, used more dowels to give the drawer fronts a fluted look and painted it all black. The mirror was another DIY using dowels, a cheap 12″ centerpiece mirror and wooden embroidery hoops. I made it for less than $40 and the inspiration piece was nearly $300. For the Villain decor, I used cheap IKEA oval frames, painted them gold, and used my cricut to cut vinyl in the shape of Villain silhouettes. My niece absolutely loved them!
Last but not least I found this vintage desk, painted it and put veneer on the drawer fronts to match the wood tones in the rest of the room. Then I added cane webbing to these IKEA book shelves to bring just a little more boho to the space.
