It’s time for the Fall One Room Challenge and I’m so excited to finally tackle my boys shared bedroom! I’ve been contemplating for awhile on how I can make this room more functional for them. In the end, bunk beds are the only choice. I need to free up floor space and create more storage solutions for their clothes and toys. Here is where we are starting and it is a big mess:
I built these beds when I was pregnant with Elsie, my youngest, and while they served us well, the space just could be better utilized. The cube organizer is in the way of one of the drawers on each beds and they have a tall dresser that they can’t even reach the top drawers on.
You may be able to tell that this room used to have a cute space theme with DIY string art on the walls and planets hanging from the ceiling but it’s definitely not cute anymore and the mess is driving me bonkers!
My older son love love loves sports and would not accept a makeover of this room that didn’t include a strong sports theme. He can’t pick just one sport since he loves them all so we are going to go with a general vintage sports theme. Sports for the boys, vintage for me. Here is my mood board for the space:
Over the next 8 weeks I will be majorly transforming this room starting with a bunk bed build. I also have an idea to use corrugated metal on the ceiling in some way to replicate a gymnasium ceiling. Other projects include making a basketball hoop, a vintage functional scoreboard, changing the light fixture, making vintage inspired team pennants, making a wood hat rack and hopefully finding an old locker set to paint. I will build some display shelves because my boys are collectors of all the things! And if I have time I will revamp their closet space.
Will you follow along? Which project are you most excited to see? Let me know in the comments!
